. . : : Purpose of IND : : . .
Iota Nu Delta was established on February 7, 1994 at Binghamton
University. It was established on certain fundamental principles
which were needed to attain it’s goals. There is not one
purpose or objective for the founding of the fraternity, but many.
- IND
was founded to serve as an organized institution to help serve
as a network and source of help and guidance for today’s
upcoming college men. As a network, it will function both during
college life and even afterwards to a brother’s professional
career as a source of aid and assistance. Brothers who are already
working and in the career and professional market can assist
upcoming aspiring "professionals." For this reason,
the fraternity has always help education as an utmost priority
keeping in mind that today’s college students will be
tomorrow’s professionals.
- IND
was also founded to serve as an aid in community service for
what is all the education and attained skills if they cannot
be utilized for the benefit of society. IND has always believed
in playing a role in making some difference in our community.
Although presently, it is not as evident because we still are
undergoing the "pains" of establishment and growth,
and because most our present brothers have not entered the professional
arena, in due time brothers will play a major role in community
service and leadership.
- IND
was also founded as a forum to encourage education and continued
awareness of the Indian culture. When the term "Indian"
is used in this context, it is not limited to the political
demarcations of the county and it’s people itself but
extends all its cultural influences and peoples around the world
including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Guyana, Mauritius, United States,
etc. The fraternity has always encouraged and stressed the importance
of "cultural awareness" which not only includes a
knowledge of our own culture but also a knowledge and appreciation
of other cultures. Consequen tly, the fraternity believes in
various experiences and activities to share Indian culture with
others and participate in activities teaching about other cultures.
Although the fraternity can be argued to be "culture based",
it does not exclude membership on the basis of color, creed,
or country. On the contrast, it encourages different types of
people to become brothers.
Although many may label Iota Nu Delta as a "cultural
fraternity", it is a premature limitation for as you can
see from the purposes and goals explained above, the Iota Nu Delta
agenda extends to cultural, professional and social concerns.
